Just For One Day

Did you see Live Aid back in ’85? Whether you were there or not, caught the action on TV or not, this really is an epic show. With the director of & Juliet and the writer of Mrs Doubtfire on board, you can expect a quality theatre experience. The music comes from a host of pop and rock legends from back in the day including Bowie, Queen, Elton John, The Who, U2, Diana Ross, The Police, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, The Pretenders, The Cars, Status Quo, Paul Weller, Sade, The Boomtown Rats, Bryan Adams, and Ultravox. And Craige Els (Doctor Who, Matilda The Musical) plays Bob Geldof himself, the famously sweary host of the London gig.

The show is directed by Luke Sheppard (& Juliet, The Little Big Things), and the book is by John O’Farrell (Mrs Doubtfire), in collaboration with Sir Bob Geldof. Matthew Brind responsible for the musical supervision, arrangements and orchestration and Ebony Molina for the choreography. Soutra Gilmour is the set designer and Fay Fullerton is the costume designer. Howard Hudson is the lighting designer, Gareth Owen the sound designer, Andrzej Goulding has created the video and animation and Stuart Burt is responsible for the casting. Don’t miss this exhilarating production.

Fantastic show, music and singing was amazing.
The show was fantastic, the music and singing was brilliant. There were some scenes that were moving, others that were very funny and overall it was an uplifting and fabulous show. The audience gave a standing ovation. I would definitely go to see it again.

Live aid in 2 hrs
Great cast and story brought back great memories of the summer of 85.
Simon, 03 Feb 2026
Lively
The show was good but some of the casting left a bit to be desired. I appreciate the attempt at authenticity but a warning about the language would have been sensible. The person to my lefts at the interval.
Shaun, 02 Feb 2026
Great fun to enjoy with friends.
Good memories of songs and real events, told in a fun and entertaining way. Uplifting mix of music, acting and comedy. Interaction between ‘Mrs T’ and ‘Mr G’ was absolute genius!
Robert, 01 Feb 2026

Recapturing the Band Aid / live aid story. Great evening
Richard, 01 Feb 2026

Alan, 01 Feb 2026
Great memory lane music with a strong message for now
We’re celebrating our golden wedding anniversary and there were some gold memory songs performed by a brilliant cast, with a strong message for the world today. Very well done.
David, 31 Jan 2026
Awesome return to my youth!
As someone who attended the real thing I wasn't sure I would like this show and was expecting some kind of tribute act. I couldn't have been more wrong. It was a fast paced story wrapped around Live Aid and perfectly evoked the spirit of that time. I saw the understudy Bob- he was so incredible it could have been the real thing! I laughed, cried and remembered. Perfect night out. Just a word of warning- true to form Bob uses rather a lot of colourful language
Lesley, 30 Jan 2026
Outstanding!!!
I do not use the word outstanding very often when completing reviews but this show was that! If you are of a certain age (!) we all remember exactly where we were and what we were doing on 13th July 1985. This show had everything! Every single member of the cast was brilliant and the band were amazing too. This show gives good vibes. Even the atmosphere in the bar during the interval was great. People chatting to one another. If there was something to moan about - the bag searching lady could have been a little bit friendlier :)
Fiona, 30 Jan 2026
Fun, challenging and poignant
I was surprised by how good this show was. I had thought I might enjoy some of the music, but the story, along with its challenge for a new generation, was engaging, especially as I hadn’t remembered many of the details. The choreography was great and the musical interpretation of the songs was remarkable. I found myself crying for most of the show.
Toby, 29 Jan 2026

We enjoyed every minute of it. The singing was fabulous.
Debra, 26 Jan 2026
Great feel good show!
What a great show! I was only a teenager when Live Aid was at Wembley & one regret is that I never went to see it! The show was actually quite educational as well as having fantastic music & dancers! The singers were phenomenal & every hair on my body was on end! Quite emotional too - take the tissues! I’ll definitely be coming again! Thank you!
Lucie, 25 Jan 2026

Melanie, 24 Jan 2026
Amazing night had
The show was uplifting I can’t believe how amazing the cast were. Their vocals were were brilliant and it was so good to see all the cast with massive smiles in their face. Going by the standing ovation from the crowd everybody enjoyed the show
Russell, 24 Jan 2026
Excellent uplifting show
Live Aid was a major phenomenon for the majority of people in the UK at the time; huge degree of support, participation etc. For people not yet born, it was a precursor to many approaches still visible in fundraising, good causes, and the careers of many emerging and established artists. Also the cause of many ethical debates, scepticism, understanding about our power to influence the world's geo-politics and governance. All of that is relevant today. But most of all, this is great music, great fun.
David, 23 Jan 2026
Brilliant show
We loved the show. Excellent view of the stage and could not fault the performance. Brilliant voices and musicians.
Sarah, 23 Jan 2026

Julia, 22 Jan 2026
Wonderful Show!
So much more than just amazing eighties tunes! I really wasn't expecting to be so moved by the reminders of why and how Live Aid came about. The music and singing was spectacular and the message of hope for change as relevant today as it was in 1985!
Anne, 21 Jan 2026
A real WOW factor show
Brilliant cast. Amazing singing and dancing right through
Lynda, 21 Jan 2026
Fantastic show, great music, wonderful story, amazing lighting
I loved everything about this show, it brought back great memories. The music and vocals were superb, the lighting, sets and staging were amazing. I hope it becomes one of those classic shows that just runs and runs. It tells a story that is as relevant to today’s world as it was in 1985. We just need a few more people like Bob Geldof.
Nicholas, 19 Jan 2026
Great Music
It was a good show full of really good music and anthems. It is good if you like 80s music or come fr9m that era! The story had sad bits, political bits fun bits, but ultimately really good music. The singers wee brilliant all of them. They did not try to emulate the ‘real’ singer of the day, but really made it their own. Loved the anthems and ballads.
Chris, 16 Jan 2026
Phenomenal, breathtaking & unforgettable!
Went with minimal knowledge about the show - apart from being 80s music fans, but this was on another level! A beautifully crafted script, taking the audience deeper into the Live Aid story & all its complexities. A phenomenal cast, bursting with talent & energy .. hard to know where to look when the stage was full. Inspiring, energising and utterly memorable, but also deeply moving & emotional at times. Thankyou to everyone involved in the show. ❤️
Elspeth, 16 Jan 2026

LIVE AID: The Musical has got to be THEE best west end show I have EVER seen. 🤩 Absolutely recommended. We cried, laughed, sang and danced. ❤️ Had front seats too!🤟It also told the story of how the concert came to be and all the work that was put into it back in the day! I would happily watch that show 10x over!👌 🎶🎵We can be hereos..... JUST FOR ONE DAY!🎵🎶

Renata, 28 Dec 2025
A must see for all music lovers.
I remember watching live aid on tv . The show brought so many memories back as an avid music lover and going to live concerts it reminded me all of the artists I have seen in the past . The story was also brought to life showing what happened in the world for this historic event to happen. I highly recommend this show everyone played a great part especially the actor for Bob Geldof . It really touches your heart and soul.
Sonia, 23 Dec 2025
unexpectedly entertaining
each time we come, we choose a musical, because besides London, where else can we attend musicals? we booked this one but it was at the end of the list and we did it because we’ve seen all the others; the story wasn’t that exciting… we must admit this is one of the best we’ve ever seen. acting, dancing, singing and the setlist of 80s hits were the best ever. the special performance of many world hits made them better that what they were. we’ll go again, it’s astonishing.
frédéric, 20 Dec 2025

Jane, 17 Dec 2025
Exceptional !!
Script was so well done, working in songs from the artists performing at Band Aid & Live Aid to tell the 'story'. Fantastic performance from every one of the cast - who needs fancy scenery with such talent and a great backing band. Don't miss it !!
Sheila, 12 Dec 2025
Great show!
Great show, actors, music!! Only minus was that it was too loud in our opinion.
Frida, 03 Dec 2025
Brilliant story that needs telling
The music and singers were so full of energy and passion. Sadly not able to get up and dance!

nicholas, 30 Nov 2025
Unexpected WOW
We went back 40 years when we were 18, music was a juke box jam revising memories and taking us back, whilst reminding us of that we should never forget.
Steve, 30 Nov 2025
Amazing
The show was very clever. I thought the way they told a piece of history with music intertwined was brilliant. A real reminder about the horrors happening in Ethiopia and how brilliant the music of that era from that time.
Alison, 29 Nov 2025
Great show with great music
We really enjoyed the show. The music and the acting were great, some amazing singers. I think the show is probably more suited towards the older generation (50+) as obviously we were around in the 80s and remember that era well. Some great songs which brought back some great memories .
Sarah, 28 Nov 2025

Took me back to 80s
I am from Sydney Australia and seen many musicals over many years. But never have I felt that the singing was always great. Just for one day cast were incredible singers. The band fantastic. If I wasn't restricted to my seat I would have been dancing. Spectacular...
David, 29 Oct 2025
Fantastic!
I just went to see this show as a fun evening, but it was so much more! Absolutely excellent. I think it is probably the best West End show I have seen. Funny and moving. Exceptional voices and music throughout. Frequent swearing, in keeping with the character, but maybe not suitable for younger children
Lucy, 29 Oct 2025
Nostalgic
Weakish storyline. Unfair portrayal of what this country did at that time. Getting fed up with negative, apologetic slant on events that were good. Show didnt feel celebratory. Some fabulous singers. Some poor. Unsure of who was portraying who sometimes.
Neil, 26 Oct 2025
Exhilarating
Loved , loved , loved my evening . It was a last min decision for me and I loved it .
Julie, 18 Oct 2025
Toe Tapping
I wasn't too sure what to expect, but came away with a smile. This show captured you from the beginning with a very talented cast who were amazing from their accents, dancing and outstanding singing skills. The story had some hilarious parts in it with the Margaret Thatcher tiggling us all with her acting and humour. If you were a Band Aid fan you will enjoy this show, if you were a 80's music person, you will sing along (not too loudly) and tap your feet.
Louise, 16 Oct 2025
Superb production
Excellent night out.True story which opens your eyes to know the amount of work involved to achieve so much for those in desperate need. Great cast of talented performers . Fantastic view from the stalls d12-15. Would recommend to anyone .

Peter, 09 Oct 2025
Surprised and loved it!
Didn’t read any reviews so did know the storyline or what to expect. We just saw the long list of song titles. The storyline, music, singing and set were all excellent.

Great show
Husband wasn’t keen to see but enjoyed it very much and even said he would go again
Jane, 07 Oct 2025
Nostalgia
A great portrayal of bandaid and live aid. Brilliant band. Great singing. A lot of swearing which fitted the story well but may be offensive to some people.

Must See!
Show excellent but audience participation of singing along and dancing was not allowed which really frustrated myself and person l was with - spoiled it for us and l’m sure the majority of the audience!
Edith, 17 Sep 2025
popping!
Just for one day is a uplifting musical which teaches the next generation what it was like. I brought my son and he had been cynical about live aid but it taught him it mattered, people really tried to make a difference and we did!
